Chef David Guas has opened the doors to his second restaurant, Bayou Bakery, on the historic grounds of Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital on Capitol Hill close to the Eastern Market area. Showcasing the soul of the South with his delicious, Louisiana-style favorites, and desserts at Bayou Bakery, Chef Guas serves up down-home goodness on a daily.
What: Bayou Bakery
Style: Southern Cuisine (New Orleans style)
Atmosphere: Bayou Bakery dishes up Louisiana-style eats and drinks in a Civil War-era carriage house on Capitol Hill. It’s a very casual but fun atmosphere! The space has a mix of historic Washington with a Louisiana touch. An old fashion clinique display case holds pastries like croissants and cinnamon rolls. The coffee bar greets guests as they walk through the entrance, and this is where all the food and drink orders are placed throughout the day and evening. There is an outdoor patio area where guest can enjoy a cocktail with some beignets!
What we loved: Beignets!!! You can’t get into NOLA cuisine without enjoying the sweet taste of a beignet. Guests can grab a cold Abita, glass of wine, or mason jar cocktail. For dinner, Chicken and Andouille Gumbo has come to be one of the best examples of the multicultural melting pot that has made New Orleans what it is and chef Guas definitely delivers all the right spices with this dish. We have zero complaints.
Pro tip: Plenty of character sets the scene where the menu includes Belly of the Day, Chicken and Andouille Gumbo, Blue Catfish, and Crawfish Monica. Make your way here and enjoy New Orleans cuisine and be sure to enjoy the scene of the city while enjoying a cocktail on the patio on a nice spring night! Or grab a beignet with a cup of coffee to indulge in the warm, casual atmosphere.
