How I Structure My Day

Let’s keep it real, guys! We have all been struggling, desperately trying to find ways to stay productive and busy at home. Focusing on day-to-day tasks is a huge challenge in isolation mode. When the world flipped upside down, I found myself scrolling through my IG and Twitter feeds for hours at a time. Spiraling on social media accomplishes nothing, other than adding more stress to my life! I used to always refer to people’s work offices as “adult daycares” lol. We get told what to do, and we have meetings that help our days go by faster. Having planned social interactions and places to be makes you feel like you have a structured schedule.

After a few weeks of researching how to feel and be more productive, I landed on The Pomodoro Technique — a time management method to literally get shit done! And it truly has made my days feel more fulfilled. Here’s how it works: You basically break your work day into 25-minute work sessions with five-minute breaks. These intervals are referred to as pomodoros. After about four pomodoros, you take a 30 minute break. I practice this method from 9 a.m. to about 2 p.m. That is the time frame I chose to up my professional game. After 2 p.m., I tackle my personal daily to-do list.
I use the app Toggle and my own iPhone to track my sessions and overall accomplishments. I also have to often remind myself that I’m not a terribly lazy person if I have a few “off days”– we are ALL feeling overwhelmed with the news and our overall life changes being on lockdown. Be nice to yourself and count your small wins!
