There is no better time to play tourist in DC than during the peek of the Cherry Blossoms! Sadly because of my busy schedule, it’s been hard for me to see them every year, especially because it’s tricky finding the time when it’s not filled with thousands of tourists trying to photograph them in their full glory. When my good friend Jessica of the blog The Dining Traveler asked me to join her for a fun day at the Tidal Basin, I cleared my schedule to embark on a fun day of photographing this beautiful occasion. If you live in the DC area or are visiting DC, we definitely encourage you to wake up early (ideally no later than 7AM) and head over to catch them in the beautiful early light (minus the crowds). If you’re able to go during the week, during the sunset is also a beautiful time to see them.
When picking out my outfit for this occasions, I decided on colors that would photograph beautifully against the cherry blossoms. Despite it being officially “Spring”, DC has been pretty cold these past couple of days — but looks like things are finally warming up. During this transitional time, a trench coat is your best friend. It’s a prefect layering piece and look great with other accessories like a great hat!
Quick tip: If you don’t have time to pack a picnic, you can stop by the Cherry Blossom tents for a snack, water, or wine (my choice of course!). To read more about what to do during this time in DC, visit two of my favorite local travel blogs: The Dining traveler and ChicvilleUSA.
