If you know me well, you know that one of my favorite things to do is taking road trips and discovering little towns, hidden gems, and all the beauty that surrounds our DC metro area — preferably during the week since my weekends are pretty much spent at the shop. My dear friend Jess of The Dining Traveler and I have recently been taking advantage of our similar weekday schedules and teaming up for these adventures. Last Wednesday we did just that and took a little road trip to Loudoun County where we visited three wineries – each with its own character and delicious wines!
First stop: Stone Tower Winery.
What I loved: The beautiful views and two tasting rooms on the property grounds. The first is more barn style and welcomes kids and pets. The other is a chic, incredibly well designed and styled tasting room and cellar for adults only (sorry kids but mommies need days off too)!
Tip: They have of the most beautiful event spaces in VA wine country that can fit up to 350 people. Jess and I are secretly wishing someone we know gets married there ASAP!
Second stop: Greenhill Winery
What I loved: Meeting Anthony Downing and learning about Greenhill wines from one of the most knowledgeable and exciting sommelier I’ve ever met – you must try the blanc de blancs, absolutely perfect!
Tip: Anthony offers a two-hour guided tour of the vineyards followed by a tasting seven days a week/year round. I can’t wait to sign up for it myself.
Final stop: 50 West
What I loved: Smaller, newest winery in Loudoun county. A very cozy tasting room with a separate area to purchase local charcuterie and cheeses. We also love the story behind the winery and the equestrian decor.
Tip: get there early and grab the tables inside the tasting room that are facing the beautiful views – or sit outside to take in the views on a nice day!
Travel tip for Middleburg: We stopped in at the Market Salamander for lunch and had the most delicious sandwiches. Order the tuna or the ham. Yum!
Thank you Visit Loudoun for having us and Cheers to next time!
