OBX Getaway: Must Do’s

OBX, North Carolina

During the four days of exploring OBX, we did so many things. We visited different restaurants, did a little shopping and of course relaxed by the beach. Below are my must do’s if you plan to visit OBX this summer.

Duck Donuts

Duck Donuts:  Start your day with a good cup of coffee and one of the best donuts you’ll ever have! The place is super cute too.  Their fresh cake donuts are what kids’ dreams are made of. A must try for sure!

Red Sky Cafe, OBX

Red Sky Cafe: It would be hard to pick a fave place to eat in the Outer Banks, but I must say that I’m still thinking of the amazing lunch we had at Red Sky prepared by Chef Wez. The best part about Red Sky Cafe is that they offer a service called “Chef’s on call”, where Chef Wez himself can come over to your place and prepare dinner.

OBX Restaurants, Avenue waterfront grill

Avenue Waterfall Grill:  This restaurant is located in the middle of downtown Manteo by the water front village, a place that has the cutest little shops.  After an hour or two of shopping you can head here to get a little fuel.  My fave dish on the menu was their tuna sushi style, pictured above.

obx, oysters

Coastal Provisions Oyster Bar & Wine Café:  This is a restaurant where you can get a little fancy.  I LOVE oysters and a good glass of wine. This place definitely offers both things. It’s a great place for date night.

rum, obx

Outer Banks Distillery: This place is a must visit for all my rum drinkers! You can get a tour of the distillery plus a ‘Kill Devil’ room tasting, Tuesday – Saturday at 1 and 3pm. Tours are $5 and you must be 21 years old.

Trio outerbanks

Trio Wine + Lushes and Brushes:   There is something about wine and art going hand in hand. It was a great surprise to find out that during our visit to Trio Wine, we would also be taking a painting class with Lushes and Brushes.  Trio Wine has these awesome wine stations that pours wine by using a card that links to your account. You control the size of the pour you want and they have quite the selection of wine bottles.  We definitely recommend this place for a fun afternoon with your girlfriends. They also have a great selection of beers if wine is not your thing.

Nags head beach

nags head

Nags Head: I had such a great time visiting the beach at Nags Head. The BEST part is that you can drive on them, this is if you have a permit of course! It felt like I was in a movie. The only thing that was missing was a bonfire which I plan to do during my next visit.

sand dunes

Jockey’s  Ridge: After a fun car ride on the beach, we also visited Jockey’s Ridge. I have heard about the dunes through my friends but seeing it live was so cool.  They are the tallest sand dunes on the east coast and definitely a must see in The Outer Banks. Take your shoes off and wander around, you’ll get a good exercise.

Bodie Island lighthouse

Bodie Island Lighthouse: Isn’t this the most stylish lighthouse you’ve ever seen?  I actually have never seen a lighthouse in person, so this experience definitely stood out. The view was incredible and of course a perfect place to go photo crazy. You can read more about the OBX lighthouses HERE!

sunset, obx

There is SO MUCH more to explore in the OBX, but these were my personal favorite places to visit. You can visit The Outer Banks website for more info.  Have a question for me? Comment below or find me on twitter @spicycandydc.
