I’m thrilled to share that I’ve partnered with Sassoon to share tips and useful info for proper hair care and all the fun things happening at Sassoon. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of getting my color done with Jade, the senior colorist of Sassoon in Tyson’s Galleria. During my consultation, I explained how I wanted to go a bit lighter for the spring. I brought a few photos of JLo with me as a reference (she is my inspiration for many things, including hair of course). I love that Jade was honest with me and told me that it would take a few visits to get me as close as possible to JLo’s current hair color without ruining my hair texture. She also let me know right away that after my visit my hair would need a color safe shampoo and conditioner, as well as a heat protector balm or spray I would need to use before drying or curling my hair. Jade was easy to talk to and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Below is a little Q&A I had with her to learn a little more about her and because I’m sure we could all use more knowledge about color treated hair.
Q&A With Jade
Tell us a little about yourself and when you began your Sassoon career? My journey with Sassoon began with an apprenticeship in 2002 at the Tysons Galleria Salon. Over the past 14 years, I have held several positions at Sassoon, which includes everything from from Assistant Salon Manager to Color Director. One major highlight of my career was traveling to London, UK to assist the Sassoon International Creative Team in launching a Sassoon Salon Collection.
What do you love most about being a stylist at Sassoon? The loyal clientele is what makes the work that I do so enjoyable. I feel honored that my clients come from all over the Maryland, Virginia, and DC metropolitan area to visit the salon.
What type of products do you recommend for color treated hair? I recommend color safe shampoo and conditioner as well as a heat protector before blow drying.
What is the process of drastically changing hair colors, whether from brunette to blonde or vice versa?
Brunette to blonde color changes are a bit more complicated. We usually recommend coloring the hair in stages and gradually going lighter as to not compromise the integrity of the hair.
Blonde to brunette is a much more simple application. We do recommend you bring in pictures and discuss with your colorist the shade of brown to make sure it will compliment your skin tone.
What are Sassoon’s upcoming hair trends? Right now some of our trends are natural hair with muted neutral hues, or black and cool blue-red tones mixed, blended and layered with in the haircuts.
