This past Tuesday we had the pleasure of celebrating 4th of July at the historic (and newly-renovated) Watergate Hotel. I have been waiting to explore each corner of this timeless spot, and that we did.
Arrival: We arrived around 3 p.m. to check in. Because of the busy holiday, the room wasn’t ready just yet–but the receptionist offered us a few fabulous options while we waited. One of them was to visit their new spa and relax by their indoor pool. We quickly changed to our suits and made the best out of it! Each locker in the spa is equipped with a super soft robe and slippers–a great way to unwind right off the bat.
The Room: Once checked into our room, we literally screamed out of excitement for the view we had! Our room had its own private balcony with soaring views of the Potomac and Georgetown waterfront. At this point we knew that this 4th of July was going to be unforgettable! The beds are spacious and super comfy, and can we talk about their fabulous bathroom? That shower head was out of a fancy movie scene! They also had a pretty spacious closet and great natural light.
Amenities: The hotel has a beautiful 15th-floor rooftop dubbed Top Of The Gate with spectacular vistas of the city. (Visit my Instagram to catch a glimpse of the view and other highlights from their sold-out 4th of July party.) As I mentioned earlier, they have a fabulous spa, indoor pool (the OG one from when it first opened back in 1967) and a sexy bar named “The Next Whisky Bar” with a patio–perfect date spot if you ask me!
What We Loved: So much to love about this beautiful 336-room hotel. The views and sleek decor def stood out, along with the little details like their key card that has cool words of encouragement. Modern-meet-classic accents are aplenty, like retro phones in the hallway next to futuristic elevators (punch your desired floor on a digital keypad). Rooftop bites include chef Michael Santoro’s whimsical take on personal pizzas; the Kennett Square Mushroom is a hit. Meanwhile, exotic fruits and seasonal ingredients are packed into delicious cocktails
SCDC Tip: Check in on time to make sure you enjoy every amenity the hotel has to offer. The indoor pool appears to be very family friendly so if you want time alone, I prob would visit when it first opens. They also have a quiet room at their spa if you’d like to relax a bit more after your facial or massage. We overall had a great stay and can’t wait to come back!
