The Salamander Resort, so my expectations of visiting the Middleburg, Va. resort were def high! That can, at times, backfire but this time around, it sure didn’t! Upon arrival, we got amazing customer service and as we made our way into the resort, we were overwhelmed with how grand each corner was. The concierge did a great job at giving us a brief (but very helpful) description of what we could expect during our weekend stay.
Arrival: I’ve heard so many great things about
The Room:”Oh Mah God!” is exactly what we screamed when we opened the door to our room! Lol The decor is straight out of a home luxury magazine. I went there with the bestie but highly recommend staying here with your significant other! Very romantic honey moon-ish vibes, and each floor highlights a different season (we stayed on the “winter” level). The best parts were their comfy bed, sexy, classy bathtub and super zen views of a lake and rolling green hills from our private balcony. (Some mornings we saw horses strutting around.) Also, no need to bring your bathrobe! They have really soft ones available at each room and they come with slippers. I used my robe for the pool as well! I basically brought my inner “Jlo” queen vibes with me to truly enjoy the experience.
Amenities: SO MANY amenities at this magical place! Let’s start with their amazing spa. I sadly did not have the time to make an appt for a facial but if you are looking for a good spa in the DMV, look no further! They also have a great fitness center with lots of classes ranging from yoga barre and even a guided hike class. I took their yoga class which was great! You can view their entire fitness schedule HERE! The resort also has three different pools: An indoor pool, a family friendly pool and a private stone-lined pool which is only available for guests that use their spa. No kids are allowed there, it’s mainly a place to truly relax. If you don’t care to explore outside the hotel, which you prob won’t have time or a need to, there are two different places where you can dine at: Gold Cup Wine Bar and Harriman’s Grill where you can even take a cooking class! We had a caviar and champagne tasting at their cooking studio, it was so good! This is coming from a girl who does not like caviar. So lots of amenities to pick from!
Market Salamander: The newly renovated market, located just a short walk or bike ride from the hotel, is packed with lots of fresh to-go items like pasta salads, wine, and packaged dry goods. Or, take a seat inside the bright blue restaurant designed to look like a garden with flowers everywhere. We then biked to Boxwood Winery, a modern winery with some great rose we enjoyed on its patio (and brought a bottle back to the hotel!).
What We Loved: Aside from the great room we had, we truly enjoyed the vibes a their Gold Cup Wine Bar where we got to meet Cupcake! Their cute miniature horse which even has a cocktail named after her! I even got the chance to braid her hair! It was amazing hahaha We also enjoyed hearing chef Ryan Arensdorf speak about their culinary garden where they grow most of the veggies they use at the resort for cooking and healthy smoothies. We picked some fresh black berries that were so delicious. The Salamander Resort also has their own honey bees! Basically amazing honey available only at the resort. I have so much love for this place!
SCDC Tip: Tierney and I are all about exploring so we ventured out of the resort not knowing that during the evening the resort does not really have a lot of light or signs for walking back from town! We got lost in the dark and it was kind of scary! So either bring a flashlight with you or caRed Horse Tavern, a small dive bar with live music, or King Street Oyster for a raw bar dinner and lots of local beers. The Safeway on the walk back is open until midnight, which is really convenient!
ll an Uber if you find yourself going back past daylight. Some picks in town (a 20-minute walk away) includeShop The Post:
